Regional portrait of Whatcom County, Washington, combining essays with extensive color photography of the area's shorelines, North Cascades and Mount Baker landscapes, forests, foothills, farmland, wildlife, and communities. The work explores the relationship between people and the land, including agriculture around Lynden, regional growth and development, environmental conservation, and land stewardship. Produced by the Whatcom Land Trust, it documents northwest Washington landscapes and conservation concerns in the 1990s and now also serves as a period record of the region. Contributors include prominent Pacific Northwest photographers Bob and Ira Spring, Lee Mann, Mark Turner, Mark Bergsma, and others, with an introduction on sense of place by Western author Ivan Doig.
