Synopsis

The story of a remarkable pre-school in which the “caring conscience” of the young child is facilitated without praise or punishment of any kind, without any isolation, shaming, or break from relationship, without a distinction between “selfish” and “unselfish,” and without the assumption that children need to be taught morality. Maryhelen Snyder, Editor of this revised edition. Every child wants to be full functioning. Every child wants to be in relationship. There is an exciting world to explore. These three convictions are basic for working with children. Children are a magnificence beyond our capacity to imagine, but not beyond our capacity to participate in their growth. A teacher, a parent, is privileged to be entrusted with so much yearning potential.. From the Authors’ Preface
