Trade Paperback. Etat : Very good. Presumed First Edition, First printing. viii, 61, [1] pages. Inscribed and signed on the title page by the author. Inscription reads: To Ruth Thrash--God Bless You. Deacon Demitri C. Kornegay 9-24-13. Includes chapters about Adjusting to New Things; Beautiful Ugly People; Race Relations; How to Change the World; Depression; Looking Ahead; Work; Dating; Decisions; Love and Marriage; God; Death; One Final Letter; 17 Things You Should Never Forget; and Dear Dad. The author was a police officer. He wrote this book to let his daughter know how he felt, what he said, what he thought she should do, and how to tackle a problem. With these letters, she should know that he loved her enough to sacrifice his wants for her needs, enough to make the unpopular decisions that would make her dislike him for a little while but thank him later, enough to be the father more men should be. Dr, Demitri C. Kornegay, retired as a lieutenant after 31 years with the Montgomery County Police Department in Montgomery County, Maryland, in 2014. During his career, he has worked with Special Assignment Teams, the Special Investigations Division, School Security, the Traffic Division, Applicant Background Investigations, Internal Affairs and the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit of the Emergency Response Team. He has been a police-community relations specialist for WHUR-FM. Dr. Kornegay was a high school All-American in football and attended the University of Richmond, Virginia, on an athletic scholarship and graduated in 1979 with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Speech Communications and Theater Arts. He minored in Sociology. He graduated from Bowie State University in 2010 after earning his Master's degree in Counseling Psychology. He earned his Doctorate degree in Education from Argosy University in Counselor Education and Supervision. In the 1970's, this "Outstanding Young Man of America" nominee tutored juvenile offenders at the Virginia Penitentiary in the city of Richmond, Virginia. In the 1980's, this member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. volunteered his time and services to the Washington Urban League as an elementary school tutor in Washington, D.C. In the 1990's this two time winner of the J. Franklin Bourne Association's prestigious, Award for Community Service was ordained a Deacon at the Galilee Baptist Church and developed and still runs a 12-week, Rites of Passage program for young men called "Men Under Construction". Dr. Kornegay is a "Legacy of Excellence" award winner from agoodblackmandotcom and the "Religious Leader of the Year" recipient from the Gamma Pi (graduate chapter) of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and has authored two books; "Dear Rhonda-Life Lessons From A Father to His Daughter," and "Man Up! - No Excuses - Do The Work!". Both were written with the goal of "leveling the playing field," for the thousands of young men and women who either didn't know or barely knew their fathers. These books were so well received he has appeared on such television broadcasts as Good Morning America, The View, Black Men Revealed and Fox Mornings to discuss them. His private work in the community has been featured in the NAACP's "CRISIS" magazine and "Black Enterprise magazine.". N° de réf. du vendeur 81926
