Laura K. Guyer received her BS degree in Food Science and Human Nutrition (specialization Dietetics) and MEd degree and PhD at the University of Florida. From 2013-2021, she held a faculty appointment in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) and from 1989-1999, was a tenured Associate Professor and Director of dietetics programs in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.She draws upon her years of clinical experience as a health professional and her formal education in curriculum and instruction, adult and technical education, and program evaluation to integrate Health Systems Science (HSS) into medical education. HSS is the critical third pillar of medical education that complements traditional basic science and clinical medicine using a 21st century lens focused on factors that give all Americans 'equal opportunities to achieve their most optimal health.'
