Some people who knew George Putz, Jr., might have thought he was born with a defect, as he save most everything about his life and his family’s life. He saved every cancelled check he ever wrote, from 1946 until he died in 2006. George himself felt that some people viewed him as an oddball. When he paid a wrecking company $230.00 to haul 133 dump truck loads of brick siding from the 1883 Shawano County Courthouse to his vacant lots, people shook their heads and wondered if he was all there.
George Putz, Jr. loved his hometown of Shawano, Wisconsin. He loved the Shawano Paper Mill where he worked 41 years. He loved Victorian Architecture and tried to save it where ever it was being threatened of being razed. A bachelor for his entire life, George had a passion for one cat, his Tabby, who lived with him for 18 ½ years.
We can all learn from others, what will you learn from, The Oddball.
