In this collection of interviews, essays and critiques, Patrick L. Schmidt examines how globalization is changing the way we look at both others and ourselves. Editor-in-chief of the Sietar Europa Journal for six years, he s spent time with the pioneers (Geert Hofstede, Nancy Adler, Milton Bennett), as well as a host of others, discussing the early life experiences that led them to the intercultural field...and the road since. Accompanying this rhythmic sweep of minds are articles which explore everything from cross-cultural frameworks in third-culture kids to the ethnocentric writings of Mark Twain to the interlocking of language and thought to a look at Arnold Schwarzenegger, the ultimate expatriate. Insightful, witty, audacious, DANCING TO A DIFFERENT TUNE is the sparkling, often provocative story of how people are dealing with the challenges of a multicultural planet.

Etat : Good. First Edition. Dancing to a Different Tune is a collection of interviews, articles and critiques offering a unique portrait of the inner workings of the intercultural world. It also recounts the personal journeys of the founders and builders of interculturalism as a new field of social science and an increasingly important way of life. The author goes on to apply the concept--usually focused on international business or political negotiations--to areas such as history, sociology, linguistics and education. A review of noteworthy books, as well as a pertinent film, completes the work. Dancing to a Different Tune is shrewd, lively and multifaceted in its analysis of interculturalism today. Better yet, it translates the heartbeat-cadence of the cross-cultural experience itself. N° de réf. du vendeur 938141
