Synopsis

Art & Life — Truth & Memory — Life & Death … all woven through the trials and tribulations of revolution, natural disasters, political ideology, and romance.

The baseball-loving, jazz-playing, Canadian photojournalist, Duncan MacGregor, is exposed to a life-shattering upheaval when shaken by a deadly natural disaster. His curiosity as a journalist opens doors to political, cultural, and artistic reawakenings.

When he encounters the Nicaraguan artist and revolutionary, Azucena Sosa, who paints visions from her deceased mother’s dreams of events yet to happen, he must know more.

Against the backdrop of the Nicaraguan revolution and the counter-revolution that follows, Duncan and Azucena form a relationship based upon mindfulness, thought-provoking discourse, artistic concepts, intense lovemaking, and the will to survive.

Their stories lead the reader through a 500 page plot-twisting labyrinth that raise questions about truth and memory, teaching and learning, love and loss, journalistic and artistic integrity … even the meanings of life and death.

Life is a circle. What is reality? Does it conflict with the fantastical imaginations of magical realism? Readers of many genres, from 16 to 90, will be consumed by the exciting journey enclosed between the covers of Circles of Confusion, a literary fiction novel by Doug Wicken.
