In 1902, a 22 year old Englishman landed on Penticton dock, Okanagan Falls, British Columbia, Canada, with just 50 cents in his pocket, having been fleeced by card-sharks on the old stern-wheeler, "S.S. Aberdeen". This is a classic 'record' of those times in the South Okanagan and tells, for the first time, how Hugh Leir built from a slender beginning, a lumber empire and the people he met, on the way - developers who built what are today's bustling lakeside communities.
