Shelley Gilbert, Author and Artist, is the creator of the Islands coloring/poem books. This crossover series contain her 30 hand-drawn abstract drawings and 30 interpretive poems. The first book is Islands, A Coloring Book for Adults, 30 Drawings, 30 Poems, 2001. This book sold in the Katonah Museum of Art Gift Shop, Katonah, NY, among many other venues worldwide. The second in the series is Islands, A Coloring Book for Teens and Kids, 30 Hand-Drawn Drawings, 30 Poems and Recipes, 2010. The third book is Islands, A Coloring Book for Adults, Volume 2, 30 Hand-Drawn Drawings, 30 Poems, 2011. In 2008, Ms. Gilbert published her debut novel, Swimming Naked with Jellyfish, the coming-of-age story of a girl who hates semicolons, loves extremes and lives her life exposed. This memoir novel received good reviews from Little, Brown and Company, Benjamin Cheever, James Case, among others, and won the distinguished international Eric Hoffer Award-2009 Montaigne Medal Finalist for Thought Provoking Books and for Excellence in Independent Publishing. She is currently writing the sequel. Ms. Gilbert has launched a film project and is submitting her powerful novel to film industry principals to develop a movie. The author instructs 3 workshops: Memoir Writing Workshop-The Vignette Method, How to Self-Publish Fiction and Nonfiction Books, and Writing Simply. A visual artist for over 30 years, her collage is award-winning and her tape paintings showed in Madison Avenue art gallery juried competitions. She was also a secretary, sign engraver, taxi driver, jewelry maker and gift shop owner/operator. Born in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn, NY, the author graduated from SUNY Empire State College, NY-Creative Writing and from The Publishing Institute, University of Denver. Ms. Gilbert lives in New York with her husband Hank Teller.
