À propos de l?auteur

I am a country gal at heart. I was born and raised in a small town, complete with one stoplight --Del Norte Colorado. I grew up on the Flying W Ranch; my dad was a cowboy and my mom a waitress and stay-at-home mom. Although neither went to college, they pursued their dreams of starting a family and living a quiet ranch life where my brother and I had a wonderful place to grow up with horses, tire swings and a pond to ice skate. My high school had 200 students and my graduating class had 45 students. Needless to say it was a bit of a culture shock to walk into my first Biology class at CSU with 400 students. While attending Colorado State University in Fort Collins, I started working part-time in the admissions office counseling prospective students and giving information sessions on financial aid. I quickly found my passion in advising other students about their college goals. I graduated from CSU in 1998 with a BA in Liberal Arts and an emphasis in Psychology. I then worked in admissions at Mesa State College and the University of Colorado at Boulder. I always met other first generation college students and often thought about writing a book to guide students through the overwhelming details of college. I followed my dreams, moved to California and wrote The Little College Handbook. The book led me to an assistantship at Azusa Pacific University where I earned a Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration in 2004. While at APU, I led the efforts in starting the first Women’s Resource Center at a Christian University. I experienced the other side of higher education for six years while I was adjunct faculty at Santa Barbara City College; thus far, that has been my favorite experience in my career. I am passionate about promoting higher education, especially toward First Generation College and low-income students. However, my real desire is encouraging young adults to pursue their dreams and gain awareness of themselves and the world around them whether that means a new world on a college campus or traveling abroad and experiencing a new culture.
