Synopsis

A book of poetry and art, with poems by Victoria Sullivan and art by Barbara Milman. A conversation of sorts between poetry and art, where the poems and the art form an installation on the page. Sullivan’s poems range from contemplations of the seasons, the natural losses of life, and the humor of daily existence to the endless desire for eros and rebirth. Milman’s work, derived from digital photographs, provides powerful images that play off against the words. Sullivan’s poetry has been described by critics as “wildly revelatory” and “exquisitely beautiful” , while Milman’s has been called “powerful”, “haunting,” and “almost mystical.”

Poet and playwright Victoria Sullivan has performed her poetry in a variety of venues from New York City and the Hudson Valley to Cairo, Egypt, as well as on radio and television. Her 3 prior chapbooks are EATING FIGS AT TWILIGHT, ALZHEIMER DREAMS and THE DIVIDED BED, and her poetry has appeared in numerous journals. Sullivan is also “Poet Laureate of the Woodstock Roundtable” on WDST Radio 100.1. She resides in both Saugerties, NY and New York City. Barbara Milman is a book artist and printmaker living in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her work has been exhibited throughout the United States since the early 1980’s. Her artwork and handmade artist books can be found in the special collections of many university libraries and in museums. Her previously published books include Light in the Shadows (1997), Zoe’s Journal (2009), and Alzheimer Dreams (2002). She is past president of the California Society of Printmakers.
