Her goal is to travel cheaply so that it is financially sustainable. Hostel dorm rooms and small guest houses are usually her temporary homes. Cathleen looks for ways to experience cultures deeply as she travels. She has found the best way to engage with locals is by using a technique called "thematic travel." She looks for people around the world who share her passion for food and the fiber arts, and she uses these common interests to break the ice. As a result, she has met hundreds of people, many of whom have become lifelong friends.
