Synopsis

This book maps out Semester 2 of a 1-year course in writing. The book employs the 11 Universal Sentence Forms (first presented in New Angle on Writing in Semester 1) with actual model compositions by students for new students to gauge their work by in learning to write the traditional essay forms of exposition, narration, description, and comparison, plus autobiography and character sketch. Graphic charts explain all the factors that bear on the writer; knowing these factors, the writer is lead to excellent compositions. Students also try their hand at sentence combining and freeewriting (quick writes), and are introduced on how to confer with teacher and peers.

À propos de l?auteur

Richard Dowling is an associate professor with the Asian Division of the University of Maryland University College, where he has taught English Composition, History, and Government courses in Asia for 20 years - in Guam, Japan, and Australia, with 15 of those years in South Korea. He received a B.A. in History and Philosophy from Wheeling University in 1966, and an M.A. in History from Duquesne University in 1968. He also completed two years of doctoral work in History at the University of Connecticut from 1968 to 1970. Subsequently, he received a B.S. in English from the State University of New York in 1990, and a permanent certificate to teach both English and Social Studies in grade 7-12 from the State of New York in 1991. In 2008, he published his first book "The Youth and Maturity of Humanity: Interpreting American, Modern, and Impending Global History as One Story." The book is available online. He first introduced the New Angle on Writing in a preliminary form at the KOTESOL conference in Daegu, South Korea in October 2000 and in a greatly improved and enhanced version at the October 2010 Daegu KOTESOL conference.
