Synopsis

Talking to your aging parents about all the financial issues that affect them is often very risky and difficult to do. Can We Talk? by Bob Mauterstock gives adult children a practical and empathetic approach for working with their parents to discuss and plan for all the financial decisions they will face. The book lays out the steps to prepare and hold a family meeting to open up the lines of communication. It addresses such critical areas as proper investment strategy, legal issues that can impact the family, creating a plan to deal with the devastating costs of long-term care, and passing on a legacy to the next generation. Bob calls on his 30 years of experience as a financial advisor to share real-life situations he and his clients have faced and how they developed practical solutions to solve them. Can We Talk? will give you the tools you need to put your aging parents at ease and give you the peace of mind to know that they are taken care of.

À propos de l'auteur

Bob Mauterstock is recognized as an expert in the areas of retirement income planning, long-term care planning, investment management, and legacy planning. He has been a financial advisor to hundreds of families for over thirty years and has helped them achieve a worry-free, comfortable retirement. In addition, he has helped many families deal with the chronic illness of a family member. He has worked with them to create a long-term care plan using Medicare, Medicaid, Veterans’ Benefits, and other resources to protect their assets. He is an accomplished speaker and authority on the financial concerns of the elderly. He helps elderly parents work together with their adult children to preserve their legacy. Since retiring in 2009, his focus is teaching financial advisers the skills needed to advise their clients on eldercare issues. Most advisers are well trained in retirement planning, investment management, and education funding. However, few have the skills to help their clients (or their parents) deal with all the issues of aging. After graduating from Princeton University in 1968, Bob served as a Navy Helicopter Pilot with Helicopter Combat Support Squadron Four from 1968-1974. He received a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Connecticut and holds the designations of Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC). Bob is also Certified in Long-Term Care (CLTC). He opened his first registered investment advisory firm in 1982. Bob also wrote Passing the Torch: Critical Conversations with Your Adult Children. It is a comprehensive, practical guide that leads you through the process of getting your financial life in order and communicating your wishes, desires, and concerns to your adult children.
