Synopsis

Like the epic battle it captures, Game 163 has that something extra. Reliving the excitement of the game, author Denny Dressman doesn’t dwell on whether or not Matt Holliday touched the plate. Rather, through interviews and scrupulous research, he stitches together a memorable quilt of events and backstories that kicked off “Rocktober” with a 9-8 Rockies win and launched a run that culminated with the team’s first trip to the World Series. Denny Dressman is a former award-winning reporter, editor and senior executive who concluded a 42-year newspaper career in 2007. A member of the Denver Press Club Hall of Fame and a past president of both the Colorado Press Association and the Colorado Authors’ League, he is the author of 12 other books. His biography of the late Grambling football coach, Eddie Robinson, in the context of Jim Crow segregation and the Civil Rights Movement of the early 1960s, was a Colorado Book Award finalist.
