In 1964, a group of young Vincentian intellectuals formed themselves into the Kingstown Study Group. Among the aims of the organization was to publish a quarterly magazine which was named “Flambeau” after the “ torch that lit our ancestral way in those benighted days of slavery”. The essays that dealt exclusively with St. Vincent and the Grenadines have been published under the title: “Search for Identity”. This volume contains articles from Flambeau Magazine (1965-68) which have a distinctly Caribbean flavor and which comprise the first half of the book. The second half contains the remainder of the articles of a philosophical, religious or sociological nature.
