Synopsis

"The Partisan Brigade" is the sequel to Rene Pappone’s finely crafted tale "The Italian," an historical novel that exposes the trauma faced by Antonio Leone, interned by the Canadian government as an enemy alien during the Second World War. In "The Partisan Brigade," Antonio’s teen-age son Pasqualino shocks his parents with news that he intends to prove the family’s loyalty to Canada by enlisting in the Algonquin Regiment. His plan, however, is short-lived when he is pitched into a secret world where he is trained to fight behind enemy lines. Dispatched to Benito Mussolini’s Fascist Italy, Pasqualino and two other Canadian secret agents lead a band of Italian partisans in attacking Nazi forces occupying Italy. Pasqualino survives the terrible dangers of clandestine warfare, but the grim experience will haunt him to the end of his days.
