Being human is not a precision experience. Ever watch a two-year-old with new hard shoes? The shoes are stiff and the child is proud of them, but doesn't quite know how to walk in them. So she or he does that "baby storm trooper strut." Each of us is like that in our human experience. It's all new. It takes time to break everything in, and we never do get it exactly right. The good news is that we're not supposed to "get it right." If we were supposed to get it right, we wouldn't be human. We would be something else. Humans are trial-and-error beings, experimenting with life, trying to figure out what works and what doesn't. this is good news, especially when we don't measure up to some arbitrary standard. The truth is that we aren't supposed to measure up all the time. If we did, we wouldn't learn anything and we would fail abysmally as human beings. Imperfection is built into the human for good reason. In Operating Instructions for Human Beings, we explore the roots of our "imperfect" behaviors and emotions, discussing topics from the lower "feeling" brain and the higher "thinking" or "reasoning" brain, to brain waves and hypnosis. We'll learn how brain wave states influence our behavior, and how we can intentionally utilize them to make positive changes in our lives. The book includes specific exercises and other tools we can use to identify what brain wave state we are in at different times of the day and move intentionally from one state to another. We also discuss the connection between the brain and God, or Consciousness -- exploring the theory that the point of living your human life is to need your divine Source so much that you are motivated to look for it first, before making any attempt to achieve human "perfection." To search beyond your human nature, so messy and always changing. To look for Something steady that does not change. Something that calls you Home.
