9780979308451: CodeMaster Residential Seismic Rehabilitation

Synopsis

This CodeMaster addresses identification and rehabilitation of potential seismic vulnerabilities, commonly found in one- and two-family wood-framed dwellings. Unlike previous CodeMaster documents, this information is not based on a specific code or standard and edition; rather the listed vulnerabilities have been selected based primarily on damage experienced in past earthquakes. Rehabilitation recommendations are drawn from a wide variety of resources including the International Residential Code (IRC), the International Existing Building Code (IEBC), documents prepared by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Applied Technology Council (ATC), and documents prepared by state and local agencies and organizations. It is intended that this CodeMaster be used on-site at one- or two-family dwellings, as an aid in identifying, discussing, and addressing potential seismic vulnerabilities. This CodeMaster is essentially a table in its entirety. This was found to be the most understandable and user-friendly approach to presenting the information. In traditional CodeMaster style, steps are provided; however these steps are short and simple and are designed to provide a road map on how to use the table. 6 pp.
