MAHLENA-RAE JOHNSON grew up on the mean beaches of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. During her senior year of high school, she was named Most Likely to Kidnap a Backstreet Boy. After graduating from the School of Film and Television at Loyola Marymount University, Mahlena decided to stay in Los Angeles to crawl up the ranks of the entertainment industry. In 2007, Mahlena founded Mr. J Media and published her first novel, Steve the Penguin. She later elected to continue her overeducation by going to business school and getting her MBA at the University of Southern California. Mahlena published her second novel, Bianca Reagan: Where the Action Is, in 2013, her third book, LAST MINUTE GUIDE to APPLY TO COLLEGE, in 2016, and her fourth book, Love at a Luau, in 2018. When she isn’t gorging herself on reruns of Murder, She Wrote and The New Adventures of Old Christine, corralling her growing family, or wondering what she should do with her MBA, Mahlena is working on The Best of Everything..., a YA series about child genius orphans at a tropical island boarding school.
