About the Author French writer Émile Gaboriau (1832 –1873) was a novelist, journalist and master of detective fiction. Gaboriau was born in Saujon, Charente-Maritime and achieved fame with L'Affaire Lerouge (1866). The book introduced an amateur detective and young police officer named Monsieur Lecoq, who was the hero in three of Gaboriau's later detective novels. Gaboriau had a huge following, but Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes stole a bit of his thunder. A film version of Le Dossier n° 113 (File No. 113) was released in 1932.
