À propos de l'auteur

Chinese Sentiment, by Shen Wei. Introduction by Peter Hessler. Countless photographic essays have chronicled the meteoric ascent of China in recent decades. Yet none have approached the subject of the world s most populous nation with the degree of intimacy of Chinese Sentiment, the first monograph by Shanghai born photographer Shen Wei. With nuanced observation and a uniquely witty visual style, the 75 images in Chinese Sentiment render a portrait of modern China that is complex and poignant. Running counter to the grain of many Western interpretations, Shen Wei reveals the human scale of China: a lone figure observed through the trees, the stolen glance of a young girl, a moment of repose in the bedroom. Employing the language of photography in a manner that is both dreamlike and cinematic in scope, Chinese Sentiment gracefully limns the interior life of a nation in the throes of epic change. The introduction is by Peter Hessler, staff writer for The New Yorker magazine. Chinese Sentiment was guest edited by Lesley A. Martin of the Aperture Foundation. This is the 3rd title by photographer Richard Renaldi s publishing company Charles Lane Press. The book was guest edited by Lesley A. Martin, head of book publishing at the Aperture Foundation. Charles Lane Press publishes important new bodies of work by emerging and established photographers. The emphasis of Charles Lane Press is on beautiful design, high resolution printing, and thoughtful presentation of contemporary photography.
