A well-researched biography of Emir Abd El-Kader, the Muslim warriorsaint who led the Algerian resistance to French colonization in the mid-19th century. Commander of the Faithful continues to garner significant critical reviews. The town of Elkader, IA has implemented a yearly contest for high school students on the best essay on the the life of Abd El-Kader. At that same time the Urdu rights have been sold and plans are to publish the book in Pakastan where it will be distributed to madrasas whose leadership consider it to be a prophytlactic against terrorism. John Kiser is the author of Communist Entrepreneurs, Unknown Innovators in the Global Economy, Stefan Zweig: Death of a Modern Man and the award winning (French Siloe Prize) Monks of Tibhirine: Faith, Love and Terror in Algeria. A former international technology broker, he has an M.A. from Columbia University in European History and an MBA from the University of Chicago. He lives in Virginia with his family.
