Synopsis

Mendy Knott's poetry is full of imagery and metaphor yet thick with the juicy stuff of the senses. Part narrative, part song, these are poems about the physical body, the blood of sacrifice, an unforgettable communion of spirits-human and otherwise. "A Little Lazarus, the long-awaited roundup of Mendy Knott's accessible and engaging poems, is a revelatory chronicle of a life fully and consciously lived. These deftly crafted stanzas, infused with a signature music, create a fresh take on the coming-of-age story-while boldly confronting issues of class, region, gender and race." -Patricia Smith, author of Blood Dazzler and Teahouse of the Almighty "Mendy Knott is a pure and powerful original. There is no one else a bit like her-such a stunning, indelible voice!" -Naomi Shihab Nye, author of Honeybee and You and Yours Mendy Knott's diverse creativity spans poetry, memoir, playwriting, editing, songwriting, spoken-word and screenwriting. Her work reflects life as a former police officer, Air Force Veteran, and Southern "preacher's kid." She lives in Fayetteville, Arkansas, where she hosts a poetry open mic for women and blogs at hillpoet.com
