Lowcountry Rising is a masterpiece—a fast-paced and action-packed, yet cerebral, novel. From all my years of reviewing the world's best literature, it's my opinion that Lowcountry Rising will be an instant classic… This novel has something for lovers of every genre: romance, action, literature, crime, and mystery. A must-read.
Anthony Willis, M.A., formerly the University of Akron
Deep in the heart of the Lowcountry of South Carolina—south of Charleston near the sleepy coastal town of Beaufort—there are swamps. Swamps with tupelo trees dripping with Spanish moss, cattails, stinky water. . .and hair-raising secrets of the past all the way back to the Civil War. Three people are about to find out what those secrets are.
Sticker is a man with pains more than heartache and a childhood he’d rather forget.
Candy is a divorcee just trying to get by raising her nine-year-old daughter by herself.
They’re neighbors... and it’s complicated.
When Candy’s nine-year-old daughter Sunny gets in trouble, Sticker fights to save her. But his success serves to ignite villainous forces—and a corrupt sheriff’s department—that are more concerned with money than people. They’re on the verge of making a deal—a deal that would get them the money and power they’ve dreamed of, and in the process, ensnare countless others in their treachery.
Sticker, Candy, and Sunny are about to get trapped and it suddenly dawns on them that their lives are in the balance. The escape is on, the choices made. But to free themselves and put an end to the evil, Sticker and Candy must go back—back into their greatest personal fears from the past—that prove to be just as frightening as the men who are chasing them.
It’s a clear summer’s night. It’s hot. It’s sweaty. And they’re all alone. Generations-old secrets sequestered in the bottoms of the Lowcountry swamps are bubbling up to awareness, and soon, everything in Sticker’s, Candy’s, and Sunny’s world is going to change.
This story holds nothing back. There is adult language and content as in real life, so buckle your seatbelt. Take a wild ride and adventure you’ll never forget into the mysterious, awareness-raising Lowcountry.

Samuel Othello Barlow was born in the mountains of South Carolina in 1966. He endured a tumultuous childhood and adolescence there, but found the courage to leave just before his 20th birthday. After an eventful several years of "living on the edge in just about every way imaginable," he finally ended up in a place the total antithesis of the mountains—the Lowcountry of South Carolina. Although he never attended college, he's studied a myriad of subjects such as calculus, physics, astronomy, athletics, music, survival, anatomy, physiology, microbiology, psychology, nutrition, yoga, karate, and economics. Among other ways of earning a living, he's worked as a painter, construction worker, lab assistant, office manager, printer, and pizza delivery boy. He's worked on fishing boats in the Gulf of Mexico and dug his own outhouse while living in a shack in the mountains. His eclectic experiences give him unique and thought provoking opinions on history, humanity, science, and life in general. He wrote Lowcountry Rising over the course of a year and a half while working as a prison guard in a Federal prison. He commented, "You learn that there are criminals who deserve to be there, men who are innocent but were set up to be there, and that turning a profit is more important than serving justice." Lowcountry Rising is Mr. Barlow’s debut novel, and he’s currently working on the next book in the upcoming trilogy titled Upcountry Crossing. Its date of release is scheduled for the fall of 2015, but that is uncertain because Mr. Barlow says he’ll finish it, “When I darn well feel like it.” Please check the website for updates. www.lowcountryrising.com,
