Born in Tonapah, Nevada in 1917, Jean Perry Chapman moved with her family to Los Angeles, at the beginning of the Roaring 20s. They lived along the Wilshire Boulevard Miracle Mile, the center of the boom that was that period. Growing up, she made friends with families who were major entertainers in the entertainment world, and brushed up along some of the players in that game. She studied art and becamse a fashion display designer. As World War II was looming, she became engaged, but plans were stalled as her to-be husband, Charles Edward Chapman, moved to Ft. Wayne, Indiana to work as a jet design engineer for General Electric. They did marry there, then returned to San Diego, California, where their five children were born. An exceptional pianist, since her teens, she developed into a lauded and awarded artist, in many media, particularly painting and sculpture.
