Synopsis

The Meaning and Celebration of Advent

I have heard it said many times that Christmas is for children. As someone who is moving past the middle age years and who has always been very fond of Christmas, I can only say: "I hope not!" I hope that Christmas is truly a festival of light and happiness for everyone. Yet I also think that Christmas for young and old (and middle aged!) alike is only celebrated well when the beautiful season of Advent is truly entered into as a time of preparation in joyful hope for the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

. . . from The Joy of Advent with Saint Benedict

Open your hearts during this Advent season and prepare for the celebration of Christmas with Saint Benedict. Inside you will find for every day of Advent and Christmas, the daily Gospel Reading, a selection from the Rule of Saint Benedict, a reflection and a prayer. Also included are chapters on Saint Benedict, the Meaning and Celebration of Christmas and the O Antiphons.

May you have a joyful Advent and a blessed Christmas.
