Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Jan has taught second grade, raised five children, and worked for the Social Security Administration. She launched Canine Clippers Mobile Pet Groomers in Baltimore and eventually built into the largest business of its kind in Maryland. She has written stories and profiles for various magazines, and lives with her husband Niel in Ft. Myers, Florida.
