The Essential EBUS Bronchoscopist© contains a specific competency-oriented list of learning objectives and thirty multiple choice question/answer sets. Information pertains to major topics related to endobronchial ultrasound and EBUS-guided transbronchial needle aspiration, including ultrasound physics, mediastinal anatomy, patient preparation, indications contraindications and complications, bronchoscopic technique, image acquisition, radiographic interpretation and ultrasound image pattern recognition, equipment malfunction and troubleshooting, nodal sampling strategies, specimen collection, and expected results for diagnosing and staging lung cancer and other disorders involving the mediastinum. This module pertains only to convex-probe EBUS and does not cover in detail radial-probe based interventions. As for volume 1 in the Bronchoscopy Education Project series, The Essential Bronchoscopist, the aim of The Essential EBUS Bronchoscopist© is to enhance the learner’s progress along the learning curve from novice to competent practitioner.

Dr. Henri Colt is an internationally recognized physician leader, award-winning medical educator, writer, and ethicist. His interests range from pulmonary medicine and lung cancer to ethics, grief, rare airway and pleural diseases, movies, and art. His scientific publications include more than 140 peer-reviewed research articles, as well as essays and book chapters pertaining to feature films in medical education. His books include The Picture of Health: Medical Ethics and the Movies (Oxford University Press), Flex-Rigid Pleuroscopy Step by Step (PMG Press, Singapore), The Essential Bronchoscopist Series of training manuals (Rake Press), and Bronchoscopy and Central Airways Disorders: A Patient-Centered Approach (Elsevier Press). Colt has lived, worked, and traveled in more than 100 countries. He organizes dozens of international training programs for chest specialists and educators, and participates in humanitarian aid projects for physicians in developing nations. He is founder of Bronchoscopy International, a transnational group of health care professionals committed to global medical education. Dr. Colt is also a Fellow of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine and Chairman of the World Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology (WABIP). Dr. Colt holds and a medical degree from the University of Nice, France, and is Professor Emeritus with the University of California. He has certificate degrees in medical ethics and anthropology. In addition to honorary affiliations and a history of leadership, he has received awards from international medical societies such as the American College of Chest Physicians, the WABIP,and the ASER. Other activities include adventure travel, trekking/mountaineering, and tango. When he is not traveling, Colt resides in a small California coastal village overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
