The Return of the Fury is part one of a series of stories about eight individuals who meet each other on what almost seems to be a predestined journey to discover the source of an ominous storm that has turned villagers from the diverse parts of their world to stone. The story begins with a faerie and a forest creature, from cultures that had previously been at war with one another for centuries, teaming up. Along the way they meet and are joined in their travel by a mountain princess and her sorcerer, a princess of the sea sprites and an enchantress. The last two members, a pathfinder and a guardian of the Ice Kingdom, complete the team. Their adventure ultimately leads them to a confrontation with a powerful sorcerer who was banished and imprisoned centuries ago, and is on the verge of escape. But this is just the beginning. The characters bring very different backgrounds and complicated histories of their respective peoples to their mutual quest. As they travel from a forest, to a mountain castle, under the sea, to a swamp, and a snow-covered world in the far north, they have to battle creatures who have been sent to stop them from completing a task they do not yet understand. The journey reveals bits and pieces of their respective histories that help them to begin to understand that their destinies are bound together to complete this task, even though they do not yet know how or why. On their travels, they find the notions about each of their cultures which they had learned from birth might not be completely true. They also find that they must rely on each other for protection and for ideas about how to escape from one peril after another.
