Biographie de l'auteur :
Louis Tinnin, MD, was educated at the University of Chicago for his undergraduate and medical school training. He was trained in psychiatry at the University of Cincinnati and received post-graduate training at the National Institute of Mental Health in the USA. He was a diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress. He was Professor Emeritus in psychiatry at West Virginia University. He founded the Trauma Recovery Institute, Morgantown, West Virginia, USA, where innovative treatment in psychotraumatology was developed and tested. His enduring interest was in brief treatment procedures for the medical and psychiatric consequences of trauma. Linda Gantt, PhD, ATR-BC, has been an art therapist for 40 years. She received a Master's in art therapy from the George Washington University and a doctorate in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Pittsburgh. With the ideas and the treatment processes she and Lou used at the Trauma Recovery Institute, Linda opened Intensive Trauma Therapy after Lou retired. She has done basic research in art therapy and developed the Formal Elements Art Therapy Scale (FEATS) as a means of measuring diagnostic information in drawings. She has taught in a number of graduate art therapy programs including Vermont College, Florida State University, and Notre Dame De Namur, as well as George Washington. Linda has been deeply involved in the professional issues of the field of art therapy and has served in a number of positions in the American Art Therapy Association (AATA) including President. She was awarded the association's Honorary Life Membership in 1994.
Présentation de l'éditeur :
Linda and Lou have been known as "Ma and Pa Trauma" to hundreds of therapists they have trained. Their success in the development of trauma therapy arose from their rich background in the science and art of psychotherapy. He was a psychiatrist for 50 years; she has been an art therapist for 40. Their earlier interest in the treatment of psychosis advanced in the 1980's to the treatment of trauma. This book describes what they learned about trauma and about the verbal and nonverbal brains. Their brain-based understanding of traumatic memory and dissociation inspired the development of methods and procedures for rapid and comprehensive treatment of PTSD. These methods make it possible to safely depart from the conventional "go-slow" approaches and deal with the cause and cure of post-traumatic conditions. Their book offers treatment guidelines for each trauma-related DSM diagnostic entry.
