Yolanda Commack, AKA Lonnie Bush, is the author of, Cancer Was My Blessing. In her book, Lonnie shares her testimony of battling triple negative Breast Cancer, and all the ups and downs that came along with her diagnosis. The more speaking engagements she accepted as a Breast Cancer spokesperson, the more she realized that the stories of other survivors needed to be shared. She became an advocate for the women she encountered and began asking the women she met to keep journals of their good days, tough days, and everyday life after their diagnosis. Lonnie also asked the family members of the women who had lost the battle to share stories on behalf of their loved ones. Cancer is scary, frustrating, and confusing. It makes some going through the battle stronger, and also destroys some relationships. In some instances, it even creates new friendships, and life-long bonds. As with any war, some win the fight, and others lose. No matter what God allows, we must accept and pray for peace and understanding! Going through her own personal experience with Cancer was only half the battle for Lonnie. Instead of wallowing in what was happening to her, she kept the faith and encouraged others along the way. Through it all, Lonnie learned to accept that Cancer wasn’t a curse, it was her blessing!
