Growing your organization online is not just important, it’s essential to the viability of your business. Digital Connections introduces a multi-part approach to growing your organization online and connecting with your audience. When I speak or teach, I always start out by saying the same thing, which is to first let my audience know that my goals for the day are to layout a template that will give them some best practices for establishing an effective online presence. Secondly, that I want to teach them quite a few key areas to focus on for their digital presence, as well as give them the tools and instructions to go back and implement what we discussed. Lastly, I share that I want to give them a glimpse of what’s coming in the future of digital. I realize that digital platforms are evolving rapidly and if I don’t let them know what’s coming, then they will be behind the curve quickly. Well that’s the goal of this book, to do those exact things and more. I am not saying this book will be your go-to manual for every topic addressed, but we will touch on different digital areas and give you some insight on how and why to use these tools and channels. For the last 10 years or so, I have been helping organizations connect with, engage and grow their online audiences. When I first started, it was the norm for organizations to create digital platforms in silos. The website was its own thing, social media was just a place to post stuff, mobile was just to make sure the website was responsive and build apps, and the whole focus of eCommerce was to make money, followed by the multimedia of video and audio files that were put online... somehow. Each of these things operated independently of each other and their focus was outward marketing and not engagement. But I did start to see the pieces come together and I started to see ways that the website, multimedia, eCommerce, social media and mobile could all come together in a cohesive digital strategy that any organization could use to grow online. I called this five-part methodology the iChurch Method because I was working with churches at that time. Since then, the methodology has grown to include more parts, but the foundation is the same, which is you need a digital strategy.
