I came to write poetry in 2000 when I quit my job as a retail clerk and took a poetry writing workshop from Laurie Lamon at Whitworth University. She opened the door and turned on the light. Poems poured out of the place in me that had had no voice before. I found myself writing about a variety of things, including many facets of death. I am not a ghoul. We all live in death s neighborhood; quite a few of my poems are for honoring the dead and for not letting them go just yet. There is a poem feeling I get when I m going to write. A phrase or something I ve seen or something I ve read or a sudden insight comes to me, and it persists. When I actually sit down to write, I put down on paper everything that comes into my head without weighing it.
