"Biscuit" is based on a true story and chronicles the life through good and bad times of a Victorian Pomeranian. From his early days as a stray, we see hope through his rescue to a loving home. Tragedy strikes not once, but twice, and we learn of his ordeal and isolation as he spends months in a boarding kennel and his canine family is dispersed. Hope and a positive attitude are rewarded when Biscuit is saved by a breed rescue group and happliy fostered until he is adopted into his forever home. We learn of his travels and adventures with his new family, about obedience work and competition, and about the special friendship that developed between his new family and the former one that could no longer care for him. While the story concludes after Biscuit's death from heart disease at a relatively young age, it is a story filled with hope, warmth, and compassion. Written in the style of two famous works, "Black Beauty" and "Beautiful Joe," the story is told in the dog's voice from his perspective. While the vocabulary and some concepts are geared to the adult reader, this 122 page paperback should have broad appeal.
