Austin Gary is the nom de plume for Gary Austin Heyde (born March 7, 1947, in St. Joseph, Missouri). Google: Gary Heyde. He's every Gary Heyde except the football coach (though he's the only one listed among single game record holders in the Missouri State High School Basketball Record Book). Austin grew up in a small town in northwest Missouri. He attended the University of Missouri-Columbia and has a B.S. in Speech and Drama from the University of Evansville (IN). He's a BMI-award winning songwriter, playwright, and noted storyteller and teacher. Some of his less lucrative or more unusual jobs include: movie theater concessionaire; lackey for a Missouri Highway Department Road Crew; salesman in the sporting goods department of a retail chain; busboy for a popular Mediterranean restaurant; horse stable mucker and ditch digger; personal assistant to a well-known singer-songwriter; and intuitive numerologist. It's debatable whether he was expanding his horizons, mining for future book fodder or just incapable of holding down a job. He's written: three musicals (performed at the various universities); dozens of jingles for radio and television; hundreds of songs (for artists including: Tammy Wynette, John Berry and Jeff Carson, "The Car"). He is the proud father of award-winning stage director, Rachel Rockwell and heavy metal drummer, Jeremy Spencer(Five Finger Death Punch), and surrogate father to dozens of former students. He currently lives in Port Moody, British Columbia.
