A Band of Wives (ABOW) is a private social network for all women: married, single, and everything in-between. It was founded in 2009 by Christine Bronstein as a private place for women to connect, flex their voices and support one another in unique and powerful ways. The works in this compilation are all authored by members of A Band of Wives; they range from notable authors such as Joyce Maynard, Deborah Santana, Sarah Manyika, and Lissa Rankin, to activists such as Dominique Browning and Aspen Baker. Other contributors to this book include professors, journalists, aspiring writers, widows, bloggers, housewives, a newscaster, a nanny, filmmakers, artists and photographers. The authors and artists included in this anthology are of differing ages, races, and socio-economic backgrounds to provide the reader with a broad perspective on positive female connection. The variety in the authors' careers and lifestyles gives this compilation a fresh and authentic voice. What the authors of this title have in common is an openness about their life experiences (be them difficult, blessed, or just plain comic) for the benefit of readers and a passion to promote the message that by supporting the women in our own backyards, we can change the world. This book was compiled and edited by Christine Bronstein and Carol Pott with assistance and co-editing by Mickey Nelson and Eve Batey.
