Synopsis

PK is a struggling clown. His desperate situation changes however when he hires himself out as a bearer of bad news, offering to appear at funerals, telling the mourners how the deceased really felt about them from beyond the grave. And while the darkness that follows is difficult to deal with, it turns out PK has friends that care enough to help him find the light.

Micah Schnabel's second novel is an inspired satire, a sly commentary on the artist's life and the struggle to find meaning and emotional fulfillment in a world where nearly everything is disposable and everyone is On Device.

"In Micah Schnabel's The Clown Watches The Clock, we see an amped-up version of today's society through the eyes of PK the clown. In this word of greed and technology, isolation and farce, PK is fighting the good fight, just trying to retain some humanity in the face of overwhelming cynicism. The book is terrifying at times, but overall it's carried by its wit and charm, and it's an immensely fun read. Micah's writing is bare bones in the best of ways. A quick punch to the gut that makes you catch your breath and while you brace for the next blow you find yourself laughing out loud. 'And why a clown?' To quote the book's hero, 'I thought a Clown was an antidote to cynicism.'"
— Ben Nichols, singer-songwriter and guitarist for Lucero

"Micah Schnabel's second novel seethes with a righteous fury, chuckles with a wry smirk, but, like its protagonist, never quite surrenders to the temptations of cynicism. Ultimately, somewhere underneath the heartbreaking catalogue of despair and decay, the heart of the book beats with a hard-earned celebration of defiant humanity."
— Frank Turner, singer-songwriter
