It wasn’t a game like a contest, more like a code, a way of life. It was war. Her war. Santa Monica detective Charlotte Coil has only a few things on her mind, a bank robbery-murder, a prison break by a guy she put there and the kidnap-murder of a city councilman’s brother. Oh yes, her boyfriend was held hostage by an insane gunman. Can Coil dig out of the avalanche? As she says to rival and protégé, Annie McCarthy, “This game is all I know.” Interview The following interview with the author was conducted in October, 2016. Q - What makes The Game unique? A – You might hate them or you might love them, but the people in this book certainly won’t bore you. I enjoy reading mystery and thriller, private detective, serial killer and vigilante justice novels. They’re all in the book, which focuses on a female detective and her conflicts. The emails I’ve received tell me it’s a real page-turner. Q – Is the book part of a series? A – Yes, in a sense. My novel Illusion starts a story thread that’s continued in The Game and ultimately Control. Each of the books stand alone and you can read them in any order, though all of the story and subplot threads tie up in Control. If you do want to read them in order, I would suggest: 1 — Illusion 2 — The Game 3 — Control Q - Why should readers give these books a try? A - Each of the books move quickly. They're crime thrillers which leave you wrung out and satisfied. They contain kidnapping, serial killers, vigilante justice, smuggling, terrorism and cybercrime. The series winds up with an ending that rivals many horror novels. The good guys win, but not without paying a life-changing price. Add a few helpings of romance, and you've got plots that twist and turn all the way to the end. Q – Do characters recur throughout? A – Yes, the books feature the many of the same people. Illusion sets up Steve McKuen's story and The Game sets up Charlotte Coil's. The characters Annie McCarthy, Courtney Perez and Tamra Morrison figure prominently in each of them. But they’re no match for vigilante justice dispensed by the lead characters, disturbing and intriguing in their quests for vengeance, and ultimately freedom.
