J. W. Phillips earned masters and doctorate degrees from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and for many years served as a senior pastor. Early in his adult life, Phillips appeared to be on a trajectory toward performing. He worked as a radio announcer for many years, played the leads in musicals and dramas, and directed dramas on both the high school and college levels. However, the Lord cross-grained natural abilities and led Pastor Phillips instead into extensive reading of devotional literature. The Pursuing with Passion Series is enriched by insights from hundreds of godly writers of different nations, generations and denominations.
