Can a person actually recover from a diagnosis of schizophrenia or psychosis? That’s the big question and the main focus of this workbook. The fact is that there is a 200-year-old history of thousands of individuals recovering, going on to live full lives, and actually growing in a positive, life-enriching manner after being given a diagnosis of schizophrenia. In addition, a large number of those individuals now live their lives free of any or the minimal use of psychotropic medications. Based on the above information and after extensive research and years of clinical practice helping such individuals, Dr. Ty Colbert has developed a workbook to be used by the suffering person together with his or her helpers (therapists and/or family members, etc.) to provide that person with the best possible start on a healing and recovery program. In this workbook, the person and his or her helpers will be educated and helped in the following areas: • The true source of the symptoms used to diagnose a person with schizophrenia • Evidence and examples of full recovery • How to conquer early or first episodes • How to stay out of the hospital • How to develop your own personal healing and recovery program • How to begin mastering voices (hallucinations) if experienced • How to minimize and/or possibly eliminate the use of psychotropic medications In this workbook, Dr. Colbert stresses the point that this is only a “start-up” program and that there may be plenty of additional work to be done. But this workbook does give the suffering person and his or her helpers direction and a sense of real hope that recovery is more than possible.
