There is no distance so great yet so minute as the distance between God and man. Sin created an impassable fissure between man and the God who so desperately loved Him. Man was hurt because of this failure, being forced from the safety of Eden, made to leave the intimacy he had always shared with his Creator. However, he was not alone, for God cried too. Humanity naturally views his own needs and emotions. We tend to view every event through the spectrum of our own needs. The Lonesome God examines the fall of man and the subsequent plan for redemption from God's viewpoint. God was hurt. He loved His creation more than anything else He had formed. Ultimately, He cared enough to leave His throne and die for our sins. But at the beginning, man sinned, and God became devastatingly lonely. The Lonesome God reminds us of the truth behind this love story. Hidden within humanity is a yearning to truly matter, to be part of something eternally significant. Despite this desire, the reality is that God doesn’t need us. However, the beauty is that He still chose us. True power comes in forgetting my abilities and leaning into His. True patience comes in laying aside my motives and stepping into His wisdom. True discipline comes in firmly holding His values. True knowledge comes by putting on the mind of Christ. True love is only demonstrated through embracing the unconditional aspect of relationship that only exists in Jesus.
