Synopsis

In fall 2005, a group of forward-thinking global corporations founded the Executive Corporate Learning Forum (ECLF) - an international strategic dialogue platform with the mission challenge and transform the traditional role of corporate learning and development (L&D). Realizing the shortcomings of a purely people-centered, transactional educational practice, the mission was to redefine L&D as a transformational force - deeply embedded in business processes, being able to play a pivotal role in enabling leaders and organizations to deal with the accelerating dynamic of continuous change.

We documented the first 10 years of our activities in the book Transformers - a kaleidoscope of more than 100 summaries of keynotes from thought and practice leaders, executive panels, fireside chats, group discussions, research insights, strategic initiatives, and projects from global corporations.

What this book is about

Many of the questions we addressed in the early years have remained challenges most organizations continue to face: How do you design business processes as learning opportunities? How do you become an enabler of an ubiquitous learner-driven learning culture? How do you support strategic and organizational change and act as an engine for transformation and innovation?  What capabilities, mindset, processes, and roles are required for this, and what is the appropriate operating model? What does this mean for the positioning of L&D in the overall stakeholder universe? What does it mean for the identity of the function?

Given the accelerating pace of change, we thought it prudent to continue the stories and experiences we shared five years ago. Shaping the Future of Transformational Learning celebrates ECLF's 15-year anniversary by sharing detailed summaries from seven recent ECLF events as well as eleven mini-case studies, featuring practices and strategic initiatives from companies such as Airbus, Bertelsmann, Cisco Systems, Daimler, Deutsche Bahn, ENI, Fiat Chrysler Automotive Group, Siemens, and more.

Who this book is for

The combination of summaries from executive conversations and strategic initiatives provides rare insights into the real world of current issues large corporations face - directly from those who are tasked to enable companies to shape their future.

The authenticity of the conversations and contributions make the book a valuable source of information for executives across all functions, especially with responsibilities for human capital management, organizational design, innovation, and transformation. Consultants who provide advice and services in these domains will equally benefit as well as academics who are keen to connect their conceptual thinking with on-the-ground practice.
