Synopsis

Retired LAPD Homicide Detective Nicky Cavaleri moves to Bend, Oregon, to investigate an unsolved serial killer case from the era of his childhood. When word gets out about what he and his partner, rookie detective Kelly Caldwell, are doing, the local press receives a taunting letter from the possible killer. As the investigation moves forward, a chance discovery by Caldwell turns the case on its' head, forcing the two detectives to probe deeply into past secrets that will expose them both to the risk of death.

Peter S. Berman became a Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney in 1973. After ten years as a trial attorney, he was promoted to the position of Head Deputy District Attorney, a senior administrative position. As a Head Deputy, he oversaw the daily operation of several geographic courthouses, as well as specialized divisions, including the Hardcore Gang Division, the Sex Crimes Division, and the Career Criminal Division. He retired from the office in 2002. While working as a prosecutor, he lectured for the National Prosecutors College in Houston, Texas; the California Department of Justice; the LAPD Training Academy, and numerous other groups. He was a technical advisor on a Paramount/NBC Movie of the Week that recounted one of his sexual assault cases. His work has been profiled on a number of television shows, including CBS’s Sixty Minutes. He has received Citations of Recognition from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors; the United States Secret Service; the Association of Deputy District Attorneys, and numerous other law enforcement agencies and groups. He currently works as a Specialist Volunteer with LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division, Cold Case Specials Unit, where he investigates unsolved homicide cases. He was honored by the LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division as their 2008 Reserve Officer of the Year.
