Synopsis
Organic chemistry feels like a drawing course and professors insist student learning is enhanced by writing and practice. This notebook provides outlines of lecture slides for second semester organic chemistry designed to streamline the learning experience by allowing students to listen more and learn more efficiently while producing an organized set of notes for review and study. Concepts include orgo 1 review of concepts, organometallics, reductions and oxidations, conjugation and resonance, electrophilic aromatic substitutions, addition/elimination on carbonyls, derivatives of carboxylic acids, introductory enolate chemistry, Claisen, Aldol, hydrolysis, decarboxylation, and conjugate additions--all with nomenclature and stereochemistry interwoven throughout. With an emphasis on mechanisms, multistep reactions and retrosynthesis, the outline includes regular practice and examples. Organization is not aligned to a single textbook; organization was developed by Dr. Lanni throughout a decade of teaching organic chemistry at three colleges using almost a dozen textbooks.
