Synopsis
A collaborative time-piece, part poetry part poetic image, poised in the Arctic but dislocating in place and in history; a meditation on nostalgia, sickness and life, on the nostalgia inherent in the lyric tradition, darkened and obscured and obscuring cultural and ecological loss; of voices, personal and elemental, narratives imposing and superimposed, conflicting; and the wild, clear light of the Midnight sun, imperial beyond a militant age, the Arctic midnight whose beautiful virtue is mourning turning into morning.

À propos de l'auteur
Ian Colbert is a poet among other things who lives and works between Arctic Alaska and the Southwestern United States.Working on this particular project reaffirmed for him the goodness and possibility inherent in collaborative work, and made real an old connection that seems available if we rise from ourselves in our works and days. Maile Colbert is an intermedia artist with a concentration on sound and video, living in Lisbon, Portugal, and teaching at Faculdade de Belas Artes, Universidade Porto. Steve Liu lives in Anchorage, Alaska, and travels to the North Slope once a month to work as a Project Engineer for British Petroleum. Steve has a strong interest in wildlife photography, and has photographed grizzly bears among other species at the remote locations of Wrangell St. Elias, McNeil, and Katmai. Some of his most extraordinary images come from the Arctic Ocean village of Kaktovic, where he has respectfully photographed the recent and climate- driven arrival of polar bears in the late summer and fall. Nick Warner is a traveler, cook, baker, artist and adventurer. He is passionate about exploring the world and photographing its landscapes and wildlife.
