Paperback. Etat : Very Good. Two Wars on the Frontier is the journal of A.J. Carlson, a Swedish immigrant, and Minnesota soldier, who fought in both the U.S. Dakota and Civil Wars. A.J. enlisted in company H, Ninth Minnesota Regiment and relates daily experiences including his observation guarding the gallows, as 38 Indians were hung at Mankato, MN; the largest mass hanging in US history. After serving in the US Dakota War, Carlson is sent to fight in the Civil War. There, he documents his flight from the Union disaster at Brice's crossroads and his encounters with a number of Black Americans. Carlson's urgent and lively narrative showing his role in keeping secession only attempted is a worthy reminder of how much was at stake during the Civil Wars. What makes A.J.'s writing different than all other Civil War era journals is Carlson's ability to see both wars from the perspective of both sides. For each book sold, $5 will be used toward the purchase of books, to be donated to educational organizations or programs. N° de réf. du vendeur .50-Church-060225-18.79-S135
