Synopsis

Alternately denying and facing his alcohol addiction the author undertakes a career in psychiatric nursing in Sydney in the 1970s. His marriage has failed and he flounders at first as he finds a place in the sexual revolution and house sharing culture of the times. The reader is taken on a romp through his adventures - and misadventures - eventually leaving Sydney and ‘doing a geographical’. The book gives us glimpses of how he found a new life and gained insight through many experiences, trials and errors. In a life spinning out of control, the author’s alcoholism and irresponsible lifestyle , intersected by sobering realisations, lead him to decide to become a psychiatric nurse. À propos de l'auteur

Alan Tully was born in country New South Wales. After a tumultuous early life (see A History of a Childhood: Early Years) he struggled with alcoholism, a broken marriage and a feeling of spinning out of control. He became a psychiatric nurse to avoid being in without the keys and eventually came to terms with and overcame his addiction. He now spends much of his time writing. He and his partner of twenty years live on the Sunshine Coast and are active members of the University of the Third Age.
