Synopsis

"As he closed his eyes and attempted to cry in despair, it was too late to start denying it. He was going to die." This short story introduces Michael Clifton, a young, depressed bank clerk with an awful lot on his mind following his father's retirement as bank manager and thinking about his own death was probably the most inappropriate thing he could ever do. So leaving his job and his friends behind he went hiking on a remote island of the North Atlantic alone, ill prepared, with the hope that the "answer" would come crashing down onto his head, before his own fear and guilt of not taking his father's position at the bank comes crashing down on him first.
