On the day Susan Price was born, her father was given an old typewriter in part-payment for some electrical work he'd done. In later years, he liked to claim this was prophetic. Susan Price's first book was typed on that old typewriter, and accepted for publication by Faber when she was 16. Because she was under-age, her father signed the contract. Since then, she has published over 60 books, and won many awards, among them the Carnegie Medal (for Ghost Drum) and the Guardian Fiction Award (for The Sterkarm Handshake.) For some years now she has been self-publishing, and is a founder member of the Authors Electric blog. This is her first self-published paperback - mainly because of the steady continued demand for the book from teachers and parents.
